Artistic & Designer Gemstone Cutting

Transform your gemstones into one-of-a-kind works of art

Not every gemstone has to follow a traditional cutting style. Our artistic (designer) gemstone cutting service creates extraordinary results with innovative facet arrangements, custom designs, and precision craftsmanship, for exceptional brilliance, captivating light performance, and a look that sets each stone apart.

Craftsmanship & creativity

Precision meets creativity

With over 26 years of professional lapidary experience, our master gem cutters create designer gemstones that combine technical precision with artistic creativity. Every stone is individually planned according to its shape, color, clarity, crystal structure, and your specific requirements.

Unlike standard faceting, artistic cutting is about individuality. The arrangement of every facet changes how light travels through the stone, producing distinctive reflections, scintillation, and depth that make each finished piece one of a kind.

Whether you're looking for a modern geometric design, an elegant fantasy cut, a highly brilliant precision cut, or a completely custom faceting arrangement, we can transform your rough gemstone into a truly unique masterpiece.

Endless possibilities

From our diagram library, or entirely your own

Our workshop draws on an extensive library of designer faceting diagrams, ranging from timeless classics to contemporary artistic creations.

We can also reproduce many existing designer cuts, or work from your sketches, reference photos, or CAD drawings to create a custom gemstone exclusively for you.

We also specialize in re-cutting existing gemstones. If you have a stone that was poorly cut, or one that simply looks dated, we can often transform it into a modern designer piece with noticeably better beauty and light performance.

The details that matter

Every artistic cut gets the same attention as our precision faceting

  • Perfect facet alignment and meet points
  • Exceptional symmetry
  • Precision cutting angles
  • Mirror-finish polishing
  • Maximum brilliance and light performance
  • Careful planning to balance beauty with yield

We create artistic cuts for natural and laboratory-grown gemstones, including sapphire, ruby, spinel, tourmaline, garnet, topaz, quartz, zircon, aquamarine, and many other gem materials.

Best suited for semi-precious material

Designer cuts trade some rough weight for their unique look. Standard precision faceting typically keeps 30 to 35 percent of the rough's weight as finished stone; an artistic cut, because its facet arrangement isn't built around a standard shape, usually keeps closer to 20 to 25 percent. For that reason, we generally recommend artistic cuts for semi-precious stones, where the extra creativity is well worth the trade-off. On finer precious material (top-grade sapphire, ruby and similar), we'll usually recommend standard precision faceting instead, to protect weight and value, unless you specifically want an artistic treatment and are comfortable with the reduced yield.

Good to know

Artistic cutting questions

What makes artistic (designer) cuts different from standard faceting?
Standard faceting follows an established shape and proportion set, like a round brilliant, oval brilliant, or cushion cut. Designer cuts use non-standard facet arrangements, chosen or created specifically for the stone, to produce a distinctive look and light performance you won't get from those standard cuts.
Can you reproduce a specific diagram, or work from my sketch, photo, or CAD file?
Yes. We have access to over 1,000 existing designer faceting diagrams, and we can also work from your own sketches, reference photos, or CAD drawings to create something entirely custom.
Which gemstones are best suited to artistic cuts?
We work with a wide range of natural and lab-grown materials, though semi-precious stones such as quartz, amethyst, topaz, sunstone, zircon, peridot, ametrine, and citrine tend to suit artistic cuts best (see the yield note above). For fine precious material, we'll usually suggest standard precision faceting instead, unless you specifically want the artistic treatment.
Can you re-cut a gemstone I already have?
Yes. If you have a stone that was poorly cut, has lost brilliance, or just looks dated, we can often re-cut it into a modern designer piece with noticeably better beauty and light performance. Send us photos and we'll tell you honestly what's possible.
Can artistic cuts be calibrated to a specific size?
In many cases, yes. Tell us the size you need and we'll advise whether the diagram you have in mind can be calibrated to it, or recommend an alternative that can.
Will you tell me if there's a problem with my stone?
Yes. If we find fractures, inclusions or anything that could affect the result, we'll contact you before proceeding whenever possible. Some internal fractures and inclusions can't be detected before cutting, so natural gemstones carry inherent risk, and it's worth understanding that before we begin.
How do I get my stones to you?
Two ways: ship them, or bring them in person. Most clients ship, since it's the simplest and most cost-effective option. Send your parcel by EMS or FedEx (both tracked and insured) to our office in Sri Lanka, and we'll confirm safe arrival. If you'd rather hand them over yourself, or you'd like to see the workshop, you're very welcome to visit us in Sri Lanka.
Can you handle bulk or wholesale orders?
Yes. Our team of cutters can take on anything from a single custom stone to full bulk, mass-production orders for wholesalers and retailers, all cut to the same standard.
How much does an artistic cut cost?
It depends on the size and complexity of the stone. Contact us with your details for a quotation.

Reviews

What our customers are saying

"

I was incredibly impressed with your ability to cut these stones for optimum beauty, artistry and clarity, especially as these were previously rejected by another cutter as too fractured to cut. Now I have beautiful faceted stones, and your prices were far less expensive. I've already recommended you to a friend.
