Lab Testing & Certification
Independent laboratory certificates for the stones we cut, heat treat and set, and identification for stones you are still deciding about. Your gems are already traveling to us. For a flat US $15 per stone, they can travel home with paper.
Three questions a certificate settles for good
A stone without paper trades on your word. A stone with paper trades on the laboratory’s. That difference is worth far more than fifteen dollars the day you sell.
What is it?
The species and variety, identified and put in writing. Useful before cutting, when knowing what a rough parcel actually contains decides what it is worth cutting into.
Is it natural?
Natural or synthetic, stated on the certificate. The single question your buyer will ask, answered by a laboratory instead of by you.
Can I prove it?
A certificate that travels with the stone, so what you paid to establish once keeps working every time the stone changes hands.
One flat rate, and a path to more when you need it
Basic lab certificate
US $15 per stone, flatIssued by reputable independent laboratories in Sri Lanka. Identification of the stone and its natural or synthetic status, in writing, from a lab with no stake in the answer.
Advanced reports & GIA
Quoted case by caseMore detailed reports, and GIA certificates for stones that warrant them, are available on request. The cost depends on the laboratory and the tests involved, so we confirm the price with you before anything proceeds.

Ask for a quoteThe closing step of work already underway
Most testing we do is added to a cutting, heat treatment or jewelry order. The stones are already here, so certification adds a line to the invoice, not a second shipment.
Add it to your order
Tell us which stones you want certified when you place a cutting or treatment order, or at any point while the work is with us.
Tested after the work
Certification happens once cutting or treatment is complete, so the certificate describes the stone exactly as you will receive it.
Home with paper
In most cases the certificate travels in the same parcel as your stones. One shipment out, one shipment back, documents included.
Have a stone you are not sure about? Testing does not require a cutting order. If you only want to know what you have, and whether it is natural, we will test it and send it back with its certificate. Most clients simply find it makes sense to have the stone cut while it is here.
Asked before adding testing to an order
Who actually issues the certificate?+
Reputable independent laboratories in Sri Lanka. The certificate is theirs, not our own paperwork, which is the point: it carries an opinion from a party with no stake in the answer.
What does the basic certificate tell me?+
The identity of the stone and whether it is natural or synthetic, in writing. If you need more than that, an advanced report is the right tool, and we will quote it before proceeding.
Can I get a GIA certificate?+
Yes, on request. GIA reports cost more than the basic certificate, and the price depends on the stone and the report type, so we confirm the figure with you before anything is sent.
Is it really a flat US $15 per stone?+
For the basic certificate, yes. Advanced reports and GIA certificates are quoted case by case. For larger parcels, contact us with the count and we will quote the batch.
Does testing add shipping cost?+
In most cases, no. When testing is added to a cutting or treatment order, the certificate travels home in the same parcel as your stones.
Will you test stones you are not cutting?+
Yes. Send the stone, we arrange the testing, and it comes back with its certificate. Most clients combine testing with cutting or treatment since the stone is already making the trip, but it is not a requirement.
Fifteen dollars now, or your word alone later
Tell us which stones you want certified when you place your order, or message us about a stone you want identified. We will confirm the cost and the certificate type before anything proceeds.
